Wayne is a retired teacher and teacher of teachers. He has degrees in English, history, and religion, as well as graduate work in educational psychology. Since retiring in 2012 from the Community College of Aurora, he has published three chapbooks: Magmamystic, From the Ashes, and, most recently, Sacred Chill, poems written during the first year of the Pandemic.
From 2014-2018, Wayne facilitated monthly poetry workshops with incarcerated residents at Sterling Correctional Facility in Sterling, CO. The poets published a book called Unlocked Poetry with Professor Gilbert and the Lyrical Vagabonds.
Wayne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2005. Through the Davis Phinney Foundation, Wayne leads two monthly poetry workshops on Zoom for people with Parkinson’s. He refers to this work as Metaphor Medicine.
Wayne is co-founder of Reconnect with Your Body, a Dance for PD® affiliated dance class and performance company. https://www.artasaction.org/re... is also a co-founder of Us-in-a-Box Theatre Workshop, a small group of creatives who write, produce, and act in original theatre pieces.
